I had two reasons for starting this blog. First, to have a place to document your dad and I’s life together. Second, create a space where we could document thoughts and feelings we want to share with you.
Let me clarify, at this point in time, I don’t know you. I don’t know your names, your genders, or even how many of you there will be. I don’t know when you’ll be joining our family or where our family will be when you join us. But I want you to know, that even at this point, you are wanted and loved. Someday, when the time is right, you will join us.
So while at this moment I am not a parent, sometimes I feel like I have things to say that I want to pass on to future generations. While I realize that I still have a lot to learn, and will change my opinions and views many times over my lifetime, I want to share with you the things I know at certain points in life. So I’m creating this blog category, titled ‘Dear kids’, so that one day, you can read what your parents thought to be things you should know.
Remember that we are not perfect, we struggle everyday to be a little better than yesterday. We have fears and insecurities. We have doubts and worries. We most definitely have faults. I know you have much to teach us, and that raising you will be one of the best learning experiences of our lives. I also know that we will try our absolute hardest to be the best parents we can be. We will try and raise you the way God would have us raise you. We will try and teach you right from wrong in a world that says it’s all relative. We will try and teach you love, patience, faith, and kindness through example. We will most likely fail, but then we will teach you what it means to ‘try, try again’.
I hope one day we will be not only family, but friends. I want to be your friend, but I will always strive to be your mother first. I will always have the desire to protect you, but will strive to let you grow and learn on your own as well. I look forward to the day when I meet the first of you, until then I will strive to prepare.
We love you,
Your future mom and dad.
